Whether you have been living in Atlanta for a day or a decade, Lea O'Neal would like to welcome you to town. Born in Harlem, New York and reared in the Shirley Chisholm's 12th N.Y. Congressional District, Lea relocated to Atlanta on May 27, 1977. During the 1980's Lea had what she called a “dream job”. She was the director of the Women's Vote Project and trained women to run for political office in six southern states. Lea is an ordained Presbyterian elder who is also committed to observing Judaism. As the publisher of WELCOME Magazine, she believes that southern hospitality is the sacred key to making new friends while maintaining older friendships. Join her at the Atlanta History Center for the next welcoming reception. A warm welcome awaits newcomers, transplants and homegrown folks. Lea resides in Port St. Lucie, Florida part of the year and Brooklyn, New York for another part of the year and pops in and out of Atlanta to check on her SW Atlanta home. Believe it or not, her greatest passion is one of the oldest professions in the world...gardening.
