The Student Symposium

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of WSB-TV anchorwoman Monica Pearson, the Student Symposium was created. Thirty five young people assembled on a Saturday morning in August 2010 to learn more about the broadcast media industry. The Student Symposium has been expanded and includes an essay contest featuring high school students. Interested scholars should contact Ms. O'Neal for this annual summer program. Each year a different industry is explored. A team of professionals gather to create this timely experience free of charge to the students.

When asked, “Why do you wish to attend this symposium with Ms. Pearson?”
here's what some of our high school scholars said...

"Ms. Pearson inspired my mother to study the broadcast/journalism field many,
many years ago. I have been motivated to also reach goals and make a difference
in television and radio like Mrs. Pearson.

Dakota Jade Donaldson- Hampton, Georgia- Marietta High School

I've been watching Monica Pearson on TV since I was 5. Back then, I knew her as Monica Kaufman.
From watching her news reports daily, I developed an interest in journalism and broadcasting.
I enjoy the events in life that make each day different. Ms. Pearson will help me gain more knowledge
on my career path....I can't wait.

Brittney Ewing- Mableton, Georgia- South Cobb High School

It would be my honor to celebrate Monica Pearson's 35th anniversary with WSB-TV by attending this
symposium. I admire her unbiased presentations of the
news and her unwavering dedication to the community. Thank you for this invitation.

Zion Griffin- Stockbridge, Georgia- Dutchtown High School

I am interested in exploring career opportunities as a sports broadcaster or analyst. I have had
an interest in this field since 5th grade when I served as anchor of our school broadcast program.
I had the whole studio experience including camera operation, editing and directing.

Jebril B. Reeves- Atlanta, Georgia- West Lake High School
